How Can Eating Three Muffins Each Day STOP Heart Attacks?

In case you haven’t heard – which I am pretty sure is NOT the case – being overweight or obese can seriously jeopardize your health.

It could lead to poor cholesterol levels, out-of-control blood sugar and insulin levels, higher blood pressure….you get the point.

Being overweight or obese is by far the biggest health concern.

And I am not just talking about those who are morbidly obese…

I am also referring to those people who are slightly overweight – like by as little as FIVE or TEN pounds!

So what’s the big deal?

Fat Intake, Weight Gain, and Your Health

Everyone knows that being overweight is bad for their health.

It’s been shown – time and again – that carrying around your excess weight could put you at risk for many chronic diseases, including diabetes and heart disease.

And the reason for weight gain – in most cases – is based on the foods you eat.

Now, back in the 70s, people were told to avoid saturated fat because, according to one study, it posed a risk to heart health.

And it could possibly lead to weight gain – which could also impact the health of your heart.

Well today, we know a little bit better!  We know that saturated fat is NOT the evil villain it has been made out to be.

So what could be the main cause?

Well, across the board…in countless studies…and through medical observation, we know that being overweight or obese could significantly increase your risk for heart disease – and a number of other health issues.

Now, you have probably heard that polyunsaturated fats may be beneficial to all aspects of your health.

And these potent fats should be part of your daily nutrition plan.

Now, according to a new study, researchers have discovered that replacing saturated fats with polyunsaturated fats may
reduce factors associated with heart disease – even with modest weight gain.

Check it out…

Researchers gave participants three muffins – made with either saturated fat from palm oil or polyunsaturated fat from sunflower oil – in order to spike weight gain in the participants.

At the end of the seven weeks, both groups weight had increased by an average of 2.2 percent.

Now, here’s where it gets cool…

Researchers discovered that participants who ate the polyunsaturated muffins showed decreases in risk factors associated with heart disease.

Basically, their HDL to LDL ratio dropped as well as their total cholesterol levels.

They also discovered that when there was an increase in weight, the participants showed increased immature insulin release (insulin not fully processed and ready to do its job) and increased blood markers for endothelial dysfunction.

Take Home Message

There are two important take home messages here:

First off, polyunsaturated fats are extremely important fats to have in your diet.  The have been linked to improvements in blood lipid levels and a reduction in heart disease and other risks for chronic disease.

Secondly, being overweight – even by five or ten pounds – could put you at risk for developing a number of different chronic diseases – especially heart disease, metabolic syndrome, or even diabetes.

So, if you want to improve your heart health, there are two things you need to do: include more polyunsaturated fats into your diet AND change the way you eat and exercise in order to boost your overall fat loss.

Both of these – eating right and fat loss – could improve all aspects of your health and well-being.
