You may be wondering how you can survive fall and winter and still burn fat.

Well, luckily for you, we have FOUR of the best comfort foods that may help keep you in fat burning mode.

Four Comfort Foods That Burn Fat

The number one concern for most people during the Holidays is how to avoid gaining weight – or more importantly –fat.

With all those tasty snacks, rich pies, or cheesecakes at your fingertips, it may be very easy to throw caution to the wind and enjoy them…

…and gain a few pounds in the process!

But, luckily for you, we have FOUR common comfort foods that people enjoy during the Holidays that may keep you warm and cozy AND help you burn fat in the process.

Here are the FOUR foods:

1. Hot Cocoa

Real cocoa, most notable dark chocolate, itself has powerful antioxidants and other compounds that may lower your inflammation and cortisol levels.

And this may lead to lower fat gain, due to the lower cortisol levels.

Plus, if you add a touch of cinnamon, you may be able to control your blood sugar levels, which could lead to less fat gain.

Tip: Commercial hot cocoa may be loaded with refined sugar, which could spike your insulin levels and cause fat gain.  It's best to avoid commercial hot cocoa as it will more than likely lead to weight gain.

2. Pumpkin

This low-calorie food is bursting at the seams in nutrition.

Pumpkin contains antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that are necessary for lowering inflammation in your body – and that includes in your fat cells.

Tip: Pumpkin can be added to protein shakes and other recipes to yield a lower calorie, healthier snack.  Stay away from pumpkin pie, however.  The added sugar and refined carbs found in pumpkin pie may ADD to your waistline instead of taking away from it.

3. Chili

A cup of chili contains MANY different fat-busting nutrients.

It contains fiber (in the beans), protein (from both vegetable and non-vegetable sources), and capsaicin (from the chili peppers), which makes this soup a pretty solid fat burner.

Plus, the protein found in the chili may help build lean muscle mass, which further spikes your metabolism and increases your fat burning.

Tip: Make your own chili at home.  Canned chili or even restaurant chili may contain excess sodium, which leads to dehydration and possible bloating.   When making your own chili, you have more control over WHAT goes into your chili.

4. Potatoes

Many people stay far away from potatoes in fear they will gain fat.

The truth is: Potatoes contain potent vitamins, minerals, and carbs that may lead to greater fat LOSS than fat gain.

It's mainly what is added to potatoes that may contribute to weight gain.  Things like butter, heavy cream, and sour cream may add unwanted calories, which will lead to changes in the scale.

But here's the great thing about potatoes--if they're part of a healthy diet, they may actually contribute to weight loss.  Most potatoes, white potatoes included, contain plenty of fat-busting fiber, which could prevent you from eating too many calories at your next meal.

In fact, potatoes may have the highest score when it comes to curbing your appetite.

Also, compounds found in potatoes may also lower inflammation, which could lead to a much smaller you.

Tip: Roast potatoes in the oven for greater fat burning benefits.  Most mashed forms of potatoes contain heavy cream and loads of butter, which adds to your caloric intake.  Roasting potatoes with olive oil and herbs (such as rosemary and garlic) may add to the flavor and to your fat burning bottom line.
